If you have been on Ravelry today, you may have read that the US Olympic Committee has had their lawyers send letters to Ravelry requesting that we rename the Ravelympics to the "Ravelry Games", suggesting and I quote:

We believe using the name “Ravelympics” for a competition that involves an afghan marathon, scarf hockey and sweater triathlon, among others, tends to denigrate the true nature of the Olympic Games. In a sense, it is disrespectful to our country’s finest athletes and fails to recognize or appreciate their hard work.

Face Palm.

Knitting in honor of our Olympic Atheletes fails to recognize or appreciate their hard work.

Read the whole thing here.

For those of you who don't know, knitters around the world participate in the Knitting Olympics during each Olympic Games, striving to achieve knitting greatness while celebrating the Olympic Games. This has been happening since 2004. Apparently calling it the Ravelympics is enough to get you a lovely legal letter from the USOC.

Let's piss off the knitters now, huh?
