So we have a couple of special updates regarding the teach knitting pledge.

For those of you who are new, I'm running the pledge to teach knitting.  I believe knitting and the fiber arts create community and that's what we need more than ever. I've gotten 13 people total to join the pledge, I originally only asked for 10. It's not too late to sign up. I'll be teaching my boyfriend to knit.

You have until June 17th to teach one person to knit, crochet, spin, dye etc. Record your experience, share it on your blog and I will include a link here on KnitLuck.

As promised I have a prize for one of the pledges. I will be randomly selecting someone from the pool of pledges to receive this:

One skein of Claudia Handpainted Boucle in Blue Fields.

You can still sign up and qualify for the drawing, if you sign the pledge by April 15th.

Also I have another bio from another one of our pledges: Knit Like You Mean It. Her photos are fantastic and she has some excellent book reviews. Here's what she had to say about the pledge to teach knitting.

I'm going to teach my sister to knit (again).  She's left-handed, so it's a little awkward for her, and it hasn't "taken" when she's learned in the past, but this time around but she's enthusiastic about it and so am I.

I teach knitting as a sort of second job, through a company called Knit-A-Gogo that holds knitting classes in coffeeshops around town (Alexandria, Va., and Washington, DC).

Much like my sister, I learned to knit several times before it "took."  Unlike her, I always knew I wanted to do it!  I received impromptu instruction at:

1. age 8 or so, from a family friend who would knit in her team's colors during Redskins games at our house;
2. age 14 or so, from my math teacher, who caught me eyeing the yarn in a combination needlework and yarn store and made me come to the math help desk to learn;
3. age 16 or so, from a friend who'd spent the summer in Maine making fairisle socks and mittens -- so that's what she taught me to do.
